Downshire Road House
The new extension to a Californian Bungalow House in Melbourne was designed to embrace the tree-lined side street and northern aspect. The resultant ‘U’-shaped addition of living areas and children’s wing (designed for twins) maximises light, views and space. The operable glass façade opens the living areas to the outside. A second system of fine steel columns supports the angled, sun-protecting eave above. The deck is a vividly curving platform, which creates nooks and invites multiple uses while addressing the garden beyond.
