Hinge House
Following the devastating Black Saturday bushfires the Victorian Government invited architects to provide their expertise in designing affordable housing to suit the new bushfire building regulations.
The ‘Hinge House’ design was conceived as a highly adaptable and cost-efficient system allowing individual responses to a wide range of sites. Metal roof sheeting is used as cladding, wrapping around a prefabricated timber structure and warm timber-lined interior. The design was selected for inclusion in the Bushfire Homes Service, a service for providing free architectural designs for Bushfire Victims of Black Saturday coordinated by the Office of the Victorian Government Architect and the Victorian Chapter of the AIA.
