Windsor Avenue House
The existing Californian Bungalow is located on a typical suburban block in Melbourne’s north. The design solution to the south-facing back yard was to construct a separate pavilion at the rear, connected by a glazed link to allow the new structure to sit within the garden.
Set to contrast the weatherboard bungalow, the palette for the new extension consists of textural blockwork walls, structural steel and glazing.
A copper element that houses the kitchen and walk-in pantry hovers between internal and external spaces – a dedicated area designed to celebrate the clients’ careers in the restaurant industry. Living areas bleed out to the outdoor deck. The first floor consists of children’s bedrooms where operable walls slide open to encourage connectivity between the rooms and a central play area.
