Principal, Clare Cousins
Clare Cousins Architects (CCA) was founded in 2005. Based in North Melbourne, the studio works primarily in residential architecture and aims to create engaging and inspiring environments for people to inhabit. Each project is a considered response to site, context, programme, affordability and sustainability, and is developed through a highly collaborative interaction with our clients.
Across all typologies, CCA’s sensitive appreciation of interior space informs each project to ensure an inherent unity between form and function that equally balances the nuances of the client and the necessities of the building program. In the public domain, in retail and commercial environments such as Aesop or the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), the approach is as holistic as in the domestic realm.
Our collaborative studio environment nurtures a youthful and energetic design team in which ideas are debated and developed. Harnessing our collective experience, highly innovative yet pragmatic design outcomes are tailored to the client’s brief, resulting in a unique, contemporary body of work that has been widely published and awarded by industry peers.
Maintaining a balanced professional profile, Clare is actively involved in the broader design community as a mentor, educator, public speaker, committee member and industry representative. Clare and her team have also provided pro-bono design services for the Bushfire Home Service, and to other clients who lost their homes in the Black Saturday bushfires.
