MAAP LaB Seoul
MAAP’s new Seoul retail store manifests the brand’s obsession with cycling and everything that surrounds it. Great coffee, local brews, shared stories, community events and group rides underpin the LaB experience as an inclusive space for everyone, a place in which design, performance, and cycling converge to form community.
The design has developed as an evolution of the first LaB in MAAP’s hometown, Melbourne, while taking cues from its new home in Gangnam District. Immersed in the centre of a city block amongst the distinctive Seoul roofscape, MAAP Lab is discovered down a narrow laneway. The discreet entry is activated by pops of colour and places to meet before a ride. Once inside, a series of lush courtyards surround the interior. Striking a balance between the machined precision of stainless steel and the material rawness of OSB walls, the new store is defined by a series of chromatic objects within the dynamic glass and steel building. In contrast to the store’s metallic details, soft pink changerooms provide luxurious respite from the urban locale.
A perforated stainless steel sofa provides a social anchor point for clubhouse events or where racing takes centre stage. Designed as much for retail as it is for events, MAAP LaB provides a dynamic space for a wider and more inclusive cycling community.
