Located on a generous suburban block, Denbigh Road House sensitively integrates contemporary notions of family living with an architectural relic of a bygone era. The main challenge in this brief was to incorporate an addition that would embody more contemporary notions of connection to landscape and flexible communal living, whilst also enhancing the positive aspects of the existing period home.
Deep setbacks from the street and the retention of several mature trees allowed our intervention to sit quietly behind the existing home, despite its robust material nature. Though unprotected by any heritage controls, all efforts were made to preserve and celebrate the existing building.
The resulting design is a thoughtful and enduring dialogue between old and new worlds, a place the family can comfortably call home for many years to come.
Located on Bunurong country.
