CCA was commissioned to consolidate and adapt two adjacent 1970’s brick warehouses to establish a new workplace and co-working venture.
Sited in Melbourne’s city fringe Cremorne, the flexible co-working space is designed to encourage collaboration and foster start-ups. Located on the ground floor to engage with the street, large windows were inserted in the original building skin to maximise transparency and convey inclusiveness. Reconfigurable furniture was selected to allow various uses in the central of the tenancy including hot-desking and hosting events.
Upstairs, a philanthropic foundation called for a private and discrete tenancy with generous offices, boardrooms and open plan workstations for team project work. Protected garden terraces were inserted on the first floor within the original building footprint allowing expansive glazed threshold between inside and out while maintain privacy from neighbouring buildings. A new 200m2 rooftop terrace was created by reinforcing the existing roof structure. With direct lift access from the ground floor, the roof terrace provides a sunny lunch space or generous event space for the building’s occupants.
