This residential extension on a tight corner site was designed within the existing ground floor footprint with the first-floor programs nestled into the existing pitched roof. Clad with darkly coloured roof tiles, the first-floor addition plays on the existing terracotta roof’s qualities with a series of delicate folds. The extension therefore becomes an extension of the roof as a way to minimise the visual bulk on a prominent corner. Cantilevering to form a sheltered ground-level entertaining area, the new insertion helps to create a link between inside and outside.
